About Rob
Rob helps businesses use data in ways that make a difference. He has a background in statistical and mathematical modelling, but his work covers the entire journey from raw data to something useful.
Much of Rob's work happens behind the scenes. He studies how data behaves, checks assumptions, and builds models that are detailed where they need to be and simple where they can be.
He is not just applying methods by recipe. He understands why they work, what they assume, and where they need to be adjusted to fit the job properly.
This leads to work that fits the business and stands up in practice.
What We've Been Working On
Building on earlier work around line planning in Hawke's Bay apple operations, we are now developing forecasting and optimisation systems for kiwifruit pack planning across multiple packhouses.
Each site has multiple packing runs to work through each day. Those runs differ in fruit characteristics, storage conditions, pick timing, and size mix, and each packhouse has its own equipment and constraints.
We are building Python tools that forecast the likely fruit mix for each run and optimise how runs are set up and scheduled. The system brings together operational data, pack plans, size profiles, and site rules in one place, so planners can compare plans, make decisions, and know what to expect before the runs begin.
